Hi, I’m Alex!

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve been obsessed with movies and always wanted to be either a director or screenwriter or both! I didn’t really act on these dreams though aside from hyperfixating on it and constantly researching and wondering. I applied to the VCUarts film school with no film portfolio and a very badly written script. Ultimately, I was rejected and I panicked and reapplied to VCU and studied political science, kind of giving up on my dreams.

After an amazing college experience I wouldn’t change for the world, I graduated and realized a career in politics wasn’t for me. I applied to graduate school at Syracuse University and studied higher education administration during COVID. Also during COVID, I picked up a film camera and started learning about photography, lighting, and composition. I was handed down a digital camera and kept growing by photographing my then boyfriend (now husband!), my dogs, my chickens, and my cat through the years.

In 2022 and 2023, I briefly worked in higher education at a small school in Massachusetts and loved every minute of it. But I realized I couldn’t see myself working in higher ed for the long run and that I wanted to pursue photography full time. I then decided to commit to following my dreams and becoming the full time photographer you see here today.

ABOUT MY WORK

I strive to capture the moment in all of its glory - full of light, full of color, full of emotion. I’m on a quest to let go of trying to perfectly capture something, and trusting myself to capture moments in the way they happen - fast or slow, chaotic or quiet, and to have this transcend into how you feel when you see your photos. I edit to bring out color vibrance and warm tones, and stay true to color.

For all of my work, I blend my documentary style with providing direction when necessary and minimally posing. I want your pictures to represent you, holistically and authentically yourself in your environment and who you’re with in the moment, with my artistic eye.

During engagement sessions and in my work with couples, I focus on connecting and grounding you in the space you’re in and to each other. During family sessions, I let life carry on and document the moments as they happen.

I’m also your listening ear, your guide when you need me. If you need help planning your session, wedding, or elopement, I have plenty of recommendations for vendors who do amazing work, and I can provide creative direction if you’d like a photographer’s perspective. Lastly, I’ll always keep in mind what you find beautiful and what’s true to your story.

Why do I photograph weddings, elopements, couples, and families?

I really found a love for it once my husband proposed to me and I started looking for my own wedding photographer (side note, I chose Carrie of Carrie Coleman Photography and she was AMAZING. thank you endlessly, Carrie.).

I fell in love with images of couples all over the world whose stories were being told with incredible, never-going-to-leave-your-mind visuals that they got to print and keep for the rest of their lives. Wedding and family photos are small treasures that will be passed down family lines for generations.

Some photos reminded me of old movies or classic, cinematic, romantic moments.

In COVID, I started photographing my family, my friends who were in love with their people, and the magic in their connection was so tangible and I was so proud of myself for having captured it and being able to gift it to them. If my dream of directing movies didn’t feel within arm’s reach, well this brought me just as much joy and makes an incredible impact on those I work with.

Today, I concentrate on couples and families because their love is at the center and focus of each image and this brings me immense joy and purpose. Everyone deserves to have their love captured, and to preserve their emotions in this season of life. My hope is always that my work and your pictures will be passed down for generations to come.

a few of my favorite personal memories on film.

MY CORE VALUES

ADVENTURE

I try my best to live life to its fullest and in the monotony of the everyday, we can sometimes forget to do this. Adventure is critical to learning more about the world, about each other, and about experiencing things that make you grow, make you understand the world with a new perspective, and give us a good story. In my work, I strive to make every day feel like an adventure, seeing the world through a new and unique perspective of the story of your day.

BEAUTY

Once of the greatest things about life is finding what you think is beautiful and understanding why you’re drawn to it. Beauty is truly in everything and I love that I get to capture moments and people who are beautiful inside and out. Sharing beautiful moments makes my heart jump and sing and reminds me to appreciate the little things in life.

TRUTH

Especially in photographs, I value the truth of the moment, the environment, and those experiencing it. I don’t edit to make you look a certain way that’s not true to you. I photograph with the intention of documenting your history in all of its authenticity.

INCLUSION

I’m a lover of people, their thoughts, ideas, quirks, and everything in between. I hold a special place in my heart and in my work for those with lgbtq+ identities, people of color, people with disabilities, and anyone with a marginalized identity. I make space for people to feel comfortable with me, especially as their photographer. Also in the conversation of inclusion, my work extends past myself as everything I do is in collaboration with my clients’ vision and desires. My work is collaborative and I thrive when we make something beautiful together, sharing ideas together, and I always keep an ear open to include the vision that others bring to the table on a wedding day, engagement session, or family session.

WE’LL WORK WONDERFULLY TOGETHER,

especially if you consider yourself adventurous, grounded and down to earth, have a zest for life, and appreciate the beauty in the world around us.
